Heinrich Hoffmann made various series when publishing his
photo's as postcards. Perhaps the most popular is the R serie with Knight's
Cross holders where the R stands for Ritterkreuzträger. All the series with a
letter as prefix are more or less known. But Hoffmann published also a serie
(apart from 1501 to 1599) with no prefix running from number 1 to 1200. I will
call it the 'main serie' and it is at the same time the most difficult serie to
complete. As far as I can see there is no site or archive that holds all the
postcards of the main serie.
Although all the postcards are from Hoffmann they have different publisher names and places (Munich or Berlin): Photo-Hoffmann, Verlag Heinrich Hoffmann, Presse Illustrationen Hoffmann. The serie consist not only postcards but also poster and folders with series of postcards.

Title : Main serie
The main serie is a puzzle. There are various catalogs of Hoffmann but non of them contains the complete 1.200 numbers. By comparing several different catalogs one get an idea how the full range must have been looked like but still large gaps are there. The serie starts with portraits postcards but the first buildings appear with number 76 and throughout the serie numerous buildings or interiors are printed as postcards. On the other hand Hoffmann published a range of postcards under the title "Die deutsche Wehrmacht" and are found around number 805 towards 870. And so there are many postcards one would not expect like number 460 a quotation of the Swedish professor Fredrik Böök. Another thing is that the serie seams to be build up randomly as it concerns events in time. Number 256 shows Hermann Göring as Reichsmarchall (1940) but the later number 371 is of Reichsminister Ernst Röhm (executed in 1934). More or less large sections like 918 - 999 are still unidentified by me. The serie ended in my opinion at the last months of 1940.
