When the Second World War started with the invasion of Poland at 1 of September 1939, Germany had three generalfeldmarschalls. Werner von Blomberg (20 april 1936), Hermann Göring (4 February 1938) and Erich Raeder (1 April 1939) as Großadmiral.
On the 19th of July 1940 however no less then twelve new generalfeldmarschalls where created. For this special occasion a serie was printed of the newly become generalfeldmarschall. Following the war an other twelve military where apointed generalfeldmarschall with Robert Ritter von Greim being the last one at 25 April 1945.
